037 French Bread Cutting Board
Project number: 037
Wood(s): Walnut, Cherry, Maple
Size: 4-3/4” wide x 26” long
When Christmas of 2019 was approaching, I began looking around my woodworking shop to find inspiration for a Christmas gift for my wife. Along that woefully stressful journey, I found some long, narrow pieces of cherry, walnut, and maple that were remnants from other projects. The gears started turning. Soon thereafter, my wife made spaghetti along with a warm loaf of French bread, which was hanging awkwardly off our cutting board. Wallah… inspiration. The French bread cutting board was born.
At 26-inches long, it’s much longer than any other cutting or charcuterie board I’ve made. And at only 4-3/4-inches, it’s easily the most narrow. After all, you only need so much width to cut up a loaf of French bread. It’s usually the length you have to be concerned about.
After some work in the shop, I had a unique Christmas gift for my beloved wife. While it only sees occasional use, it’s gratifying when it’s used to support that very unique culinary delight.
