044 Curly Maple Charcuterie Board
Project number: 044
Wood(s): Hard Maple Flanking Boards, Walnut Strips, Curly Maple Center
Size: 12” wide x 20” long
Project 044 was one of three charcuterie boards made for an old friend. Once word got out that I was making a batch, two more friends wanted in. Then my daughter heard, which naturally led to a sixth.
These charcuterie boards marked the first of my new five-piece design. With a new table saw in place, cutting the 1/4-inch strips safely and accurately became a piece of cake. The flanking boards are now hard maple, there to support, but not take away from the intended focal point: the center board. In this case, it was curly maple, but other highly-figured boards like birdseye maple, blistered maple, and curly cherry can also be used.
This design also includes arched ends and a sweeping round-over of the top edges to make the board look less bulky.
