053 Curly Walnut Charcuterie Board

A trip to my favorite hardwoods supplier, Kettle Moraine Hardwoods in Hartford, WI, led to the focal point of this charcuterie board: a piece of Curly Walnut with great character. As Christmas of 2020 approached and friends were asking what I had available for gifts, I held this charcuterie board back because I couldn’t stomach parting with it.

In the end, it became a gift for my beloved mother-in-law, a wonderfully caring lady who withstands a fair amount of my sarcasm from yours truly. While she’s had to put up with a lot, she’s also reaped the rewards of my hobby as much as anyone.

In my recent Birdseye Maple Charcuterie Board post, I mentioned I was going to use Birdseye Maple whenever possible on new charcuterie board projects. That still holds true, but when I come across something special like this Curly Walnut, I must make exceptions.

Now I just need to hope that all the playful harassment of my mother-in-law won’t keep me from seeing this charcuterie board in action from time-to-time. Here it is in use, on Christmas Day, 2020.
