145 Walnut Coffee Table with Metal Rhombus Base
Project number: 145
Wood(s): Walnut
Size: 22-1/2” wide x 41-3/4” long x 16-1/2" tall
This project was a departure for me. Historically, I’ve made all primary components of my projects from wood. If you browse the Common Projects page of this site and look at the Furniture section, you’ll see desks and tables made entirely of wood.
That all changed the first time I saw this metal rhombus base. It’s hard to look at this coffee table base and not say to yourself, “wow, that’s cool.” Not to mention extremely unique. The base is made from two tubular metal rhombuses that intersect to form an X that provides a sturdy and visually-appealing base for a coffee table. I painted the metal black to offer long term protection.
But this is a coffee table. The base is great, but the top needed to be functional and beautiful to pull it all together. Enter a walnut top to make the coffee table’s top as visually-appealing as the base.
I hope you enjoy this coffee table as much as I do. It occupies a relatively small footprint, but is big on character. In my opinion, that’s a successful outcome.
